So, who's really inside these machines?

Hey guys!
I was stumbling upon Stumbleupon today and came across this really cool campaign (possibly German) called "Life's too short for the wrong job". Basically they're posters on the side of machines (drink dispensers, gas pump, kids ride.. etc) that give us a feeling of what people would be doing if they were actually inside working.

That probably sounded confusing didn't it? Why don't I just show you?

Cool aren't they? I actually find them very amusing yet witty at the same time. Personally, I like them because they make you think in a new perspective. When I looked at these I thought "Huh, what if there were really people inside of these machines?". I also feel like it teaches us a good lesson about our future. Also, about the photographs themselves, I feel that they were taken very precisely and purposefully; the subject matter is great! The expressions the people have in the photographs are also quite amusing. The photographs look really realistic, almost as if there are actually people inside with a class screen exposing them.

I hope you liked these images; I sure did!

Shazam 2011

Hey guys!
I am so sorry I haven't been posting regularly. I have so many bookmarked pages that I wanted to share with you guys but I've been putting it off. :/ I swear I will post them all as soon as I can! My goal is one post per day If I can!

Now for the real reason I am here, this month my CyberArts class worked again with Shazaam to create propaganda posters that would show our school in a more positive light.

For this project we were instructed to go around the school and take pictures of anything that we wanted the outside world to see. The main idea was to show the outside what the inside of our school looked like; we wanted to dismiss the stereotypes and negative opinions others had about our school. So from these images we thought of quotes corresponding with the images we took.

Here's my final poster!

You're probably wondering, "Why are the faces of the people blacked out? It looks horrible!". Well, theres a reason. haha. I used pictures of some of my classmates in this poster and since it was going online I didn't want to display their faces without permission on the internet.

My quote was "Bound by none, we are unified by choice". I wanted to show the outside world that we are not prisoners in our school. We are there because we want to be and because we are happy there. I thought this was a very powerful message.

Overall, I really liked my final product. I am very happy about the colour choices and the placement of my classmates as well as the perspective of the overall image.

I would love to hear your feedback! Do leave comments! :)

Space saving furniture

Hey guys!

I just came across the coolest video ever! Its about a company called "Resource Furniture." Resource Furniture specializes in creating space saving furniture. They create fold up furniture that is multi-purpose and very convenient.

I believe that these designers are very skilled at their trade because the amount of knowledge and problem solving skills needed to design this type of furniture must be enormous. These designers manage to make one type of object into another in such an efficiant way. For example; they attached a table to a wall that can be pulled down into a bed. But that's not all, the table itself does not have to be cleared and moved, the table folds itself completely under the bed; its contents still untouched.

If your still confused on what I mean; check out this video!

After watching that video, are you as amazed as I am? I would love to know your thoughts! For more information you can check out the Resource Furniture website HERE.

Tangled Trailer Remix

Hello again!
I know I've been promising to put up my edited trailer for a while now so here you go!

For those of you who haven't read my past posts, for my first CyberArts tech. assignment we were required to take a movie/game trailer and change the mood of it by altering scenes, music and sound Fx! For my trailer, I chose to remix the trailer of a 2011 Disney feature called 'Tangled'.

Before I go on about my remixed trailer I would like to show you the original trailer. I actually used 3 different Tangled trailers for this assignment but I will show you one and give you the links for the two others. :)

The Original

You can see the other two trailers here and here. :)

Now here is my Remixed Trailer.

As you saw, the original movie trailer is a romantic comedy with adventure. It makes you feel happy and wants to make you laugh.

For my remixed trailer I decided to change it to make the viewer feel a range of emotions; happiness, suspense, drama and intensity. The original story was of a kingdom thief meeting an interesting and magical girl that had been 'grounded' in a tower [hidden] for about 18 years and how she is taking an adventure with him to find her freedom. My story however is about a kingdom thief who falls in love with a girl in a tower, they fall in love. But the girl betrays him and sends him to jail. Now, he is angry and hurt, he breaks out of jail and takes an adventure to find this girl and take revenge.

I had a lot of fun with this assignment. It was fun cutting and pasting scenes to create a whole new story. The hardest part of this assignment was finding the right music to fit the scenes; it was even harder for me because I had to choose three different songs with different moods. That, I found, was the most time consuming. Sound effects were pretty easy but transitioning them was tricky.

All in all, I like my end result. I really liked how my music really went with the scenes and movement as well as transition. If I had more time, I think I would have edited the voice overs a little more and made them sound better.

I hope you liked my edited trailer! :)

Video on Trail

Hey guys!
Today I will be critiquing two music videos; a good one (in my opinion) and a bad one (in my opinion). I would love to know your thoughts about it afterwards!

The first video is chose to critique is Fireworks by Katy Perry.

This is an example of a good music video. The song was very inspiring and the video matched it perfectly. The song is all about inspiration, hope, belief and the need for change. I loved how the video showed a variety of different scenarios and different characters facing different situations that they needed to overcome. I felt that it was very effective because the song is about how you can make a change and the video showed these characters overcoming their situations by standing up.

I also liked the fact that the video wasn't distracting the viewer from the song itself. There weren't any unnecessary graphics or effects. The effects that were shown [the fireworks and sparks coming out from the individual's bodies] added the effect of power. It wasn't randomly there; it had a purpose. I really liked this music video.

The second music video that I will be critiquing is Your love is my drug by Ke$ha.

This would be an example of a bad music video. This video is completely random and unnecessary. For one thing, it does not make sense AT ALL. In the song, she sings about how "his [her boyfriend I'm guessing?] love is her drug." So it's basically like a love song; she talks about how her mother and friends don't approve of her love and she's confused because she can't get him out of her mind. The video however shows her in a desert, she's randomly dancing, crouching on the ground with a tiger mask on making weird poses and riding elephants. Then is shows her in a canoe, on the sand, as her boyfriend [?] pretends to paddle. Then to top it off, she is shown with a glow in the dark suit and paint on her body [face and all... still in a desert] trying to make [alluring?] poses. SPLAT, an unnecessary graphic animation. She then ends off the video with one sentence; "your love... your love... your love...your love is my drug. I like your beard." WHAT?

The music may be catchy but the music video is a horrible mess. It does not make any sense and is totally random. This video gets a huge thumbs down from me. What were they thinking?

I hope you liked my post. If you have any opinions about the videos I have chosen or my critiques please do leave a message. I would love to know what you think. Also, if you have any examples of good and bad music videos that you would like to share, do post them in the comments below. I'd like to see them! :)

About me!

Hi! How is everyone?

I'm back again for my 3rd year of CyberArts! Today, I'm going to tell you a bit about myself. I know I've already introduced myself before but I just wanted to refresh your minds. Who knows, maybe you'll learn something new about me that I haven't told you before. :)

Let's start from the beginning! I applied for CyberArts in my grade 8 year. I decided I wanted to join CyberArts because I really loved graphic design. A couple of years before, I had discovered some fan art of certain TV shows, movies and celebrities online; I thought It looked really cool. I started experimenting with programs like Adobe Photoshop and began to teach myself how to edit photos and blend images bit by bit. When I found out my high school was offering a program where I could enhance my graphic skills, I had just had to apply.

Two years have passed and this is my 3rd year here in this CyberArts program. I can honestly say that I have no regrets. Everything we do, whether it be in the visual art portion or the tech portion, we learn from it. CyberArts can be challenging at times but we have freedom to express ourselves. We have learned so much in these last two years and I am very excited for the coming year!

Now that you've learned about my CyberArts background, let me tell you a bit about my personal life. :)

My favourite school subjects are CyberArts, Biology, Physics and English. I like Biology and Physics because I understand them and they are interesting subjects. I enjoy English because I love to write and read. I go through tons of novels per month; I love fiction!

I love to dance! I am currently a part of a dance group called RAANG. We are a group of about 14 girls who perform indian (Bollywood and folk) dances for festivals, competitions and charity outside of school.

One thing that you probably have figure out from my previous blog posts is that I love Bollywood! If you ask me anything about Bollywood movies, musics or actors I will probably know it! :P

I also love sports; badminton, volleyball, soccer etc. I may not be the best but I like playing anyways; just for the fun of it. :P

Well, I hope you liked reading about me! I would love to learn about you too! :D

Stunning Sari's and Sensational Suits

This week, my mother and I were looking through catalogues of different saris and suits. While going through these catalogues I couldn't believe how beautiful some of the saris were. There weren't just one style or material; there were so many. Within these long pieces of fabric, there were sequins and beads sewed as well as embroidery.

One thing I like about these sari's is that they are like pieces of artwork. All of them have different kinds of embroidery, they are all unique in their own way. I love all the different styles of sari's and suits they have.

I looked at many, many different sari's but I couldn't choose a favourite because there were a lot that popped out at me. But If I had to choose one or two it would be the silver and pink/redish one above and the pink/redish and blue one to the side. I really liked the way they were embroidered and I also love the style of them. The colours are bold too so they pop out nicely.

My favourite suit out of all of them would probably have to be the green and red below. I like it mostly because of the pants that go with it. I love how they are puffy/volumed. It's a really nice style apposed to the skinny legged suit bottoms they came out with last year. It's refreshing to see a whole new style coming out.

If you are interested in looking at different types of sari and dress styles; check out the Silk Museum Website.

Stills and Motion

Hi Guys!

Today, I was sitting with my 7 year old cousin watching the Family Channel. After watching an episode of 'Sonny with a Chance' I was about to get off of my coach and do something productive when I suddenly heard a blast of music and then I saw them, Demi Lavato and Selena Gomez singing the song 'One and the same' from their Disney Original 'The Princess Protection Program'. My cousin seemed to love this song, so I sat down again and watched it with her; to my surprise I realized that the music video (and the song) was pretty good so I thought I'd share it with you!

In my opinion, this music video has a lot of cool video effects. I love how they cropped out clips and showed them in the frames that Demi and Selena were holding. The video wasn't made of one style. They used different things; stop animation, effects and plain video.

My favourite part of the video is when Demi and Selena are holding frames (with an empty middle) in their hands and making faces. They poke their head into the frame second and it goes through, when they bring it back their faces turn into actual pictures. I thought that effect looked really cool.

Check out the video! I hope you like it!

Old Coca-Cola Or New?

Hey Everyone!

I opened my fridge the other day and took out a coke can. I picked it up and looked at it. Then I thought, "didn't it look different before?" So I searched it up and found an images of the Coca-Cola can, before and after. This is what I came up with.

So I looked at the two designs and I think I like the first design better. The new design is nice, but its too simple in my opinion. I preferred the old design because It looked more "WOW". For example, I liked how the old Coca-Cola can used more then one colour with different shades; red, maroon, silver, white, yellow and black. I think it just looks more visually appealing. It looks shimmery and I love the bubbles and patterns on the can. I like it because it's not overly decorated, but it gives the can more character.

I think the newer can isn't as appealing. The only exciting thing about the new can, in my opinion, would be the bold cursive writing.

I think the Coca-Cola company should bring back the old can! :)

Stop Motion Animation

Hello Again!
I was recently on our CyberArts main blog. While looking through some old posts I came across some stop motion animations my CyberArts class and I made at the NFB. Looking at these animations I thought, wow. That took us a long time to make these 10-15 second animations. So I went onto youtube and started looking at random stop motion animations. Some work short and some were long, but all of them were thoroughly entertaining!

One animation I really liked was about a wooden stick figure.

Do have a look!

This animation was about one minute long and was pretty simple. It was done on a white background. The animation was about a stick figure that wouldn't stay in the position that the maker wanted. So the maker (his hand) would come in frequently and try to position the stick figure and make him stay properly. But the stick figure would change it's position. It showed the stick maker getting angry and the stick figure eventually crawled away.

I thought this video was entertaining and funny. It made me laugh. Just the simplicity had a good impact on me because there weren't any thing to distract my eyes away from the main animation.

I hope you enjoyed it! :)

Blinkies!

Hello everyone!

March break is almost over, yes there are only 2 days left. So this week, I had a chance to experiment with my Photoshop cS3 and see what new things I could learn. So I played around, clicked random things and tried to figure out what some things were and how they worked. So after a couple hours (daily) of random clicking, I figured out how to make some blinkies. Well, actually I already knew how... but this time I tried to make them more complicated. Some worked, others did not.

So, I ended up making a bunch of avatar blinkies, simples ones with textures and images from google as well as text, personalizing them for some of my friends on india-forums and this is how they turned out:

So personally, I think they turned out pretty well. I think next time I'll try making them a little more complicated; maybe add more flashy text or images. But whatever it is, I want to enhance my abilities and see how much I can improve and how much I can do!

Feedback is highly appreciated! If you would like one of your own, yes I can make you one. :)

That's it for now, but I will be back soon!

Art from my past

Hello Everyone!

Today, I was going through my past art pieces which I found in a folder on my computer in CyberArts class from last year. So I thought I should post it up.

This one of my art pieces from Year 1 CyberArts. It is a simple drawing of a bunny used with conte on a simple large piece of newsprint. I used black, white and brown colours to hatch in the shadows. The white hatching shows the light, the black shows the shadow and the brown hatching shows the mid between the dark and the light. Hatching together, it partially made the picture of my bunny 3D.

I think this is one of my favourite pieces of my most early work, just because I think I did a good job on it and I can see where I need to improve and where I can excel from last year.

I hope you like it! I will be back with another blog post in a couple of days!
