Joe Fenton

Hello again!

I was stumbling upon stumbleupon.com and came across this really cool artist named Joe Fenton. What Fenton does is he makes large scale illustrations using graphite, inc and acrylic. One thing I really like about his drawings are that they look so clean and so smooth! I love how all of the lines in his drawings are crisp and clean. His ability to make his illustrations stand out and appear 3D surprises me.

I really wanted to show you come of his work! You can click on the images to enlarge them for a better view. :)

As you can see from some of his pieces, he really uses light and shadows to make his illustrations pop out; they almost seem realistic. I hope you enjoy Joe Fenton's work as much as I did! You can see more of his works here.

Enjoy! :)

Playing around with a Camera

Hey guys!

Yesterday my classmates and I were sent outside in groups to take pictures. We were told to play around and experiment with different shutter speeds and apertures on the camera.

My group members were Roshni, Rali and Stephen. Together we are going to post some of the pictures we took and explain some of or thoughts regarding them.

This is our best example of "depth of field". For this photograph we had used a lower f-stop which meant that the camera lens was wider and therefore focused on one thing. The shutter speed we used was much faster, this meant that less light was let in the camera when we took this picture. This allowed us to get a photograph that was not over or under exposed.

This was another photograph we took. This picture, we realized, was over exposed. We believe that the shutter speed was not fast enough; this let in too much light making the image brighter than we wanted it. We also did not focus on the right object when taking the picture. We feel that we should have taken a broader shot with a faster shutter speed to get more of the flowers in the background instead of the little pieces of grass. Though this image was over-exposed we did like the final product of it; It kind of looks like a painting.

This is our best over-exposed image. You cannot differentiate between the white of the water tower and the white of the clouds. We believe that the image could have been better if we made the f-stop higher. A slower shutter speed was good for this image because the subject matter is still; there is no motion. We did like, however, the composition of the image; the way that the vertical lines of the water tower contrast with the horizon line.

This is an example of an under-exposed photograph we took. We think that the f-stop was too high and that is why the image did not receive as much light as it was supposed to. If the f-stop was lower than the image would have been brighter.

These were some examples of the many pictures we took yesterday! We hope you enjoyed them!

Amazing Typography

Hey guys!
Its 10:11pm and I have just finished my homework! So, I thought I'd go through my numerous bookmarks and post some of the cool things I found online.

What I'm going to show you today is some amazing and creative examples of Typography that I found online; 50 to be exact. But for the moment, I'm going to only show you some of my favourites!

This is a piece by ~um0p3pisdn. I LOVED the detail put into this piece. Now only is the text warped to form an actual person, the depth put into the piece was breathtaking. I loved how the artist used colour to show a 3D effect in this piece. I can't even imagine the time and effort put in to make this graphic image.

The second image I chose to show you was by ~swordfishll. I personally read this poem recently in my English class so it immediately caught my eye. I really liked the colour choice for this piece. I also liked that this image looks so simple yet so complex at the same time. The piece is mostly flat without much depth but the detail put into it to make the branched of the tree was really cool!

This is the last piece I chose to include as one of my favourites. It was made by ~e-emoo. My favourite part of this image is the overall look. I love how this image not only used text but stock images and textures as well. It's kind of like mixed media which makes it look really cool. I love how it gives off a collage like feeling. The variety of sizes of font used to make the designs on the umbrella was also very interesting!

I hope you enjoyed these amazing typography pieces! To see 47 more interesting pieces, do check out this website!

Have a great night! :)

Shazam 2011

Hey guys!
I am so sorry I haven't been posting regularly. I have so many bookmarked pages that I wanted to share with you guys but I've been putting it off. :/ I swear I will post them all as soon as I can! My goal is one post per day If I can!

Now for the real reason I am here, this month my CyberArts class worked again with Shazaam to create propaganda posters that would show our school in a more positive light.

For this project we were instructed to go around the school and take pictures of anything that we wanted the outside world to see. The main idea was to show the outside what the inside of our school looked like; we wanted to dismiss the stereotypes and negative opinions others had about our school. So from these images we thought of quotes corresponding with the images we took.

Here's my final poster!

You're probably wondering, "Why are the faces of the people blacked out? It looks horrible!". Well, theres a reason. haha. I used pictures of some of my classmates in this poster and since it was going online I didn't want to display their faces without permission on the internet.

My quote was "Bound by none, we are unified by choice". I wanted to show the outside world that we are not prisoners in our school. We are there because we want to be and because we are happy there. I thought this was a very powerful message.

Overall, I really liked my final product. I am very happy about the colour choices and the placement of my classmates as well as the perspective of the overall image.

I would love to hear your feedback! Do leave comments! :)

Edward Burtynsky

Hi! How are you all doing?

So in my CyberArts tech. class we have just started our photography unit! For this unit we will be focusing on manufactured landscapes as it is the base of our final culminating assignment for the class. To familiarize ourselves with this, we watched a documentary about Edward Burtynsky.

Who is Edward Burtynsky? Burtynsky is a famous Canadian photographer who uses manufactured landscapes as one of his main subjects of photography. He travels around the world to find landscapes that link industry to nature. He believes that his images "are metaphors to the dilemma of our modern existence; they search for a dialogue between attraction and repulsion, seduction and fear - Burtynsky".

The name of Edward Burtynsky's documentary is called "Manufactured Landscapes". This documentary shows Burtynsky's journey across China photographing manufactured or industrial landscapes; factories, recycling yards, etc. This film aimed to show us the shocking origins of where the materials we use come from and how they are effecting the environment, and people, around them.

This film showed us not only how and where Burtynsky took his large scale photographs, but showed us some of the stories and history behind them.

The movie was not all visual however. Though there were scenes of individuals speaking, there were also a lot of sound. Since this movie had a lot of long shots of image, corresponding sound was added to it (like sounds of machines), making the video more unified and interesting.

Personally, I have mixed emotions about this film. I thought that the photographs taken by Burtynsky were Beautiful! This was strange because the subjects that he took pictures of and the stories behind them were horrible. I believe Burtynsky's method of photography is amazing, he manages to create beautiful images while exposing the awfulness of them. It is very interesting. I found some beautiful yet terrible (in terms of subject) photographs that he has taken.

Oxford Tire Pile #2

I believe that the only complaint I had about this film was that I had a lot of trouble focusing on the film. The film was 90minutes long and some of the scenes were elongated. There was one shot I remember at the very beginning where they just showed repeated, moving, scene of workers in a factory. It just went on and on and on. Speaking honestly, if there was no sound added to the capturing of images, I would have fallen asleep.

Regardless, if you found this interesting, do take a look at some of Edward Burtynsky's works here or watch Manufactured Landscapes. :)

Bye
