Non-Objective Painting

Hey guys! How are you all doing?

Sorry, I haven't posted in so long, I've been very busy with school work and dance. But today I have brought to you one of my newest pieces. I actually completed it last month but hadn't had the chance to post it up.

For my CyberARTS class, we had the choice to paint a non-objective piece, make a silhouette, or design playing cards. I chose to pain a non-objective piece. For this piece, we needed to take a collection of photographs of architecture and this is what we would base our painting on. We looked at lines, curves and angles as well as texture.

This is my non objective painting. I used acrylic paint on canvas to make this piece. I based it on some well known architecture at the front of my school. However, I made it so that if an individual looked at it in first, second, third or forth glance, they would still not know what it was. But that is the point; the painting cannot be of anything and it is not. I have merely taken inspirations from a photograph, not objects.

I have used a lot of masking in this piece to achieve perfect, straight and clean lines. Though it may seem simple to use tape but it was not. I had a lot of difficulty making sure paint did not seep underneath the tape and get onto any other parts of the painting. I spent a lot of time masking a re-masking and due to that reason, a lot of my lines became thicker than I originally planned for them to be.

I really like how I used continuous geometric lines for this piece. It is very flat but I think the simple look works great. The colours I decided to use for this piece where yellow, green and a sky blue. I started off with a very warm yellow and then added cool colours (green and blue) to balance it out so that one colour was not overpowering the others.

All in all, I am very happy with my piece and I hope you like it as well! :D Have a great day!

My Dual Portrait

Hey guys! How are you all doing?

Today I am here to show you a quick piece that I have done for my CyberArts art class. For this assignment we were asked to pick two parts of our personality and put them in a unified piece by without just simply splitting the page in half.

I chose to paint my portrait because I felt that it would do the most justice to my idea. I wanted to make my portrait very abstract and acrylic paint would be the easiest and the quickest. I used a variety of brushes in different sizes and used warm, cool and neutral colours.

Basically, my piece shows a blurred out hand reaching towards a fuzzy, undefined destination which is located at the end of a pathway. However, you do not know what that destination is; you can take a hint, but you don't really know.

For this piece I decided two use the confused and determined side of me.

I'm confused because this is my last year in high school and its the time where I should be figuring out what I want to do with my life. Right now, the future seems kind of 'blurry' to me. I don't know know what to do and that's what I wanted to represent in my portrait. To make my portrait seem 'confusing' or 'vague' I made my background very abstract; it is made up of expressionistic brushstrokes with a lot of dabbing and blending.

I am determined because although I don't know what the future has in store for me, I still want to get it; to succeed. The hand and the pathway in the portrait are the only recognizable subjects even though they are also quite blurred. This represents the fact that I want to get to my destination even though I do not know what it is; I am reaching towards it. Though again, I am confused whether or not what I am going for is real or worth while.

I am very happy with my piece. I LOVE how I did the background, I think its my favourite part of the whole piece. Especially the colours, the dabbing and the splattering. If I could improve anything about this portrait, I would probably fix the hand, it looks okay but I think I could have painted it better; the proportions need to be fixed.

I hope you liked my peace! Take Care! :D

Alex Grey

Hi Guys!
How are you all doing? I'm in my final year of CyberArts now! Exciting eh?
Well for my first post of the new semester we were asked to research an artist who created a modern or postmodern portrait that interested us. I chose to talk about Alex Grey.

Alex Grey was born on November 29th, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio. Grey spent five years at Harvard Medical School studying body in the Anatomy department as well as the department of Mind/Body. He worked with many doctors conducting scientific experiments to investigate subtle healing energies. Grey was asked to do illustrator work and spent 10 years as an instructor in Artistic Anatomy and Figure Sculpture at the New York University. After that Grey started to paint a series of paintings that wanted to "take the viewer on a journey towards their own divine nature by examining, in detain, the body, mind, and spirit".

I am going to talk about Alex Grey's 'Oversoul'.

This portrait really interested me. 'Oversoul' in my eyes is beautiful; I really enjoy the 3D feel that is created by the pyramid composition. Depth is added to the painting because the body of the man is created with vertical lines but the background is created with radial lines. You can really tell the difference between background and foreground; I like how Grey used lines more than colour to show them apart. Another thing I love is the repeating pattern of the eye that is used through out the painting because at first glance they look like simple radial designs. The eyes really stand out because Grey alternated cool and warm colours. Where there were warm colours grey added blue eyes and where there were cold colours Grey added red eyes. The eyes also stand out because they are integrated everywhere.

This portrait to me is very spiritual, I believe Grey was trying to show the relation between the eyes, body, brain and soul. I think that portrait has something to do with knowledge as well as the man in the portrait is looking upwards; or maybe he is looking up towards a higher being. I don't know. But I do know that I love this portrait; the overall look is very interesting. I spent a great deal of time just looking at it, taking in all of the details.

If you found this piece interesting, do check out more pieces by Alex Grey here.

Have a good night!

So, who's really inside these machines?

Hey guys!
I was stumbling upon Stumbleupon today and came across this really cool campaign (possibly German) called "Life's too short for the wrong job". Basically they're posters on the side of machines (drink dispensers, gas pump, kids ride.. etc) that give us a feeling of what people would be doing if they were actually inside working.

That probably sounded confusing didn't it? Why don't I just show you?

Cool aren't they? I actually find them very amusing yet witty at the same time. Personally, I like them because they make you think in a new perspective. When I looked at these I thought "Huh, what if there were really people inside of these machines?". I also feel like it teaches us a good lesson about our future. Also, about the photographs themselves, I feel that they were taken very precisely and purposefully; the subject matter is great! The expressions the people have in the photographs are also quite amusing. The photographs look really realistic, almost as if there are actually people inside with a class screen exposing them.

I hope you liked these images; I sure did!

Photography Time!

Hey guys!
I have been taking photographs all week for my CyberArts tech. culminating assignment and thought I'd share a picture with you.

Our assignment focuses on manufactured landscapes and my idea was to show factories that are awkwardly placed in random areas (between houses, in front of schools, etc). While I was taking pictures one day, I found this little factory beside a bridge near my house. I looked very out of place and I was drawn to it. This is one of the pictures I took of the factory.

This picture really interested me; the exposure of the image looked pretty cool. It doesn't really show the location of the factory but you can still tell what it is and that it is on a slope. I also found the placement of the tree on the side to be interesting. I really liked his picture and I hope you like it too! :)

Have a nice day!

Joe Fenton

Hello again!

I was stumbling upon stumbleupon.com and came across this really cool artist named Joe Fenton. What Fenton does is he makes large scale illustrations using graphite, inc and acrylic. One thing I really like about his drawings are that they look so clean and so smooth! I love how all of the lines in his drawings are crisp and clean. His ability to make his illustrations stand out and appear 3D surprises me.

I really wanted to show you come of his work! You can click on the images to enlarge them for a better view. :)

As you can see from some of his pieces, he really uses light and shadows to make his illustrations pop out; they almost seem realistic. I hope you enjoy Joe Fenton's work as much as I did! You can see more of his works here.

Enjoy! :)

Playing around with a Camera

Hey guys!

Yesterday my classmates and I were sent outside in groups to take pictures. We were told to play around and experiment with different shutter speeds and apertures on the camera.

My group members were Roshni, Rali and Stephen. Together we are going to post some of the pictures we took and explain some of or thoughts regarding them.

This is our best example of "depth of field". For this photograph we had used a lower f-stop which meant that the camera lens was wider and therefore focused on one thing. The shutter speed we used was much faster, this meant that less light was let in the camera when we took this picture. This allowed us to get a photograph that was not over or under exposed.

This was another photograph we took. This picture, we realized, was over exposed. We believe that the shutter speed was not fast enough; this let in too much light making the image brighter than we wanted it. We also did not focus on the right object when taking the picture. We feel that we should have taken a broader shot with a faster shutter speed to get more of the flowers in the background instead of the little pieces of grass. Though this image was over-exposed we did like the final product of it; It kind of looks like a painting.

This is our best over-exposed image. You cannot differentiate between the white of the water tower and the white of the clouds. We believe that the image could have been better if we made the f-stop higher. A slower shutter speed was good for this image because the subject matter is still; there is no motion. We did like, however, the composition of the image; the way that the vertical lines of the water tower contrast with the horizon line.

This is an example of an under-exposed photograph we took. We think that the f-stop was too high and that is why the image did not receive as much light as it was supposed to. If the f-stop was lower than the image would have been brighter.

These were some examples of the many pictures we took yesterday! We hope you enjoyed them!

Amazing Typography

Hey guys!
Its 10:11pm and I have just finished my homework! So, I thought I'd go through my numerous bookmarks and post some of the cool things I found online.

What I'm going to show you today is some amazing and creative examples of Typography that I found online; 50 to be exact. But for the moment, I'm going to only show you some of my favourites!

This is a piece by ~um0p3pisdn. I LOVED the detail put into this piece. Now only is the text warped to form an actual person, the depth put into the piece was breathtaking. I loved how the artist used colour to show a 3D effect in this piece. I can't even imagine the time and effort put in to make this graphic image.

The second image I chose to show you was by ~swordfishll. I personally read this poem recently in my English class so it immediately caught my eye. I really liked the colour choice for this piece. I also liked that this image looks so simple yet so complex at the same time. The piece is mostly flat without much depth but the detail put into it to make the branched of the tree was really cool!

This is the last piece I chose to include as one of my favourites. It was made by ~e-emoo. My favourite part of this image is the overall look. I love how this image not only used text but stock images and textures as well. It's kind of like mixed media which makes it look really cool. I love how it gives off a collage like feeling. The variety of sizes of font used to make the designs on the umbrella was also very interesting!

I hope you enjoyed these amazing typography pieces! To see 47 more interesting pieces, do check out this website!

Have a great night! :)

Shazam 2011

Hey guys!
I am so sorry I haven't been posting regularly. I have so many bookmarked pages that I wanted to share with you guys but I've been putting it off. :/ I swear I will post them all as soon as I can! My goal is one post per day If I can!

Now for the real reason I am here, this month my CyberArts class worked again with Shazaam to create propaganda posters that would show our school in a more positive light.

For this project we were instructed to go around the school and take pictures of anything that we wanted the outside world to see. The main idea was to show the outside what the inside of our school looked like; we wanted to dismiss the stereotypes and negative opinions others had about our school. So from these images we thought of quotes corresponding with the images we took.

Here's my final poster!

You're probably wondering, "Why are the faces of the people blacked out? It looks horrible!". Well, theres a reason. haha. I used pictures of some of my classmates in this poster and since it was going online I didn't want to display their faces without permission on the internet.

My quote was "Bound by none, we are unified by choice". I wanted to show the outside world that we are not prisoners in our school. We are there because we want to be and because we are happy there. I thought this was a very powerful message.

Overall, I really liked my final product. I am very happy about the colour choices and the placement of my classmates as well as the perspective of the overall image.

I would love to hear your feedback! Do leave comments! :)

Edward Burtynsky

Hi! How are you all doing?

So in my CyberArts tech. class we have just started our photography unit! For this unit we will be focusing on manufactured landscapes as it is the base of our final culminating assignment for the class. To familiarize ourselves with this, we watched a documentary about Edward Burtynsky.

Who is Edward Burtynsky? Burtynsky is a famous Canadian photographer who uses manufactured landscapes as one of his main subjects of photography. He travels around the world to find landscapes that link industry to nature. He believes that his images "are metaphors to the dilemma of our modern existence; they search for a dialogue between attraction and repulsion, seduction and fear - Burtynsky".

The name of Edward Burtynsky's documentary is called "Manufactured Landscapes". This documentary shows Burtynsky's journey across China photographing manufactured or industrial landscapes; factories, recycling yards, etc. This film aimed to show us the shocking origins of where the materials we use come from and how they are effecting the environment, and people, around them.

This film showed us not only how and where Burtynsky took his large scale photographs, but showed us some of the stories and history behind them.

The movie was not all visual however. Though there were scenes of individuals speaking, there were also a lot of sound. Since this movie had a lot of long shots of image, corresponding sound was added to it (like sounds of machines), making the video more unified and interesting.

Personally, I have mixed emotions about this film. I thought that the photographs taken by Burtynsky were Beautiful! This was strange because the subjects that he took pictures of and the stories behind them were horrible. I believe Burtynsky's method of photography is amazing, he manages to create beautiful images while exposing the awfulness of them. It is very interesting. I found some beautiful yet terrible (in terms of subject) photographs that he has taken.

Nickel Tailings No. 30
Sudbury, Ontario 1996

Oxford Tire Pile #2
Westley, California, USA, 1999

I believe that the only complaint I had about this film was that I had a lot of trouble focusing on the film. The film was 90minutes long and some of the scenes were elongated. There was one shot I remember at the very beginning where they just showed repeated, moving, scene of workers in a factory. It just went on and on and on. Speaking honestly, if there was no sound added to the capturing of images, I would have fallen asleep.

Regardless, if you found this interesting, do take a look at some of Edward Burtynsky's works here or watch Manufactured Landscapes. :)

My Chair Design - The Comfort Chair

Hi! How is everyone?
Today I am posting about my chair design. In my CyberArts art class we were assigned to design and make a model of a chair that exudes our personality. I decided that I wanted a comfy chair in which I could lie down in, cuddle up and sleep or read. This is what I based my design on.

Personally, one thing I love doing is cuddling up on my sofa and reading my a book when it's raining outside; it feels peaceful. I also like having my books at hand. This is why I chose to add a small storage space for my books near the bottom front of my chair. I wanted my chair to be a colour my chair it would be a light soothing colour that was light and soothing because I am mostly a quiet person, I don't like to much attention. I am laid back and I am comfortable around others.

This is my chair. I call it "The Comfort Chair". I wanted my chair to be known for being
comfortable. I wanted a chair that was more organic than geometric. When I think of geometric shapes such as squares and triangles, I think of stiffness; I did use rectangles but I added curves to them so they felt more organic.

I like being comfortable in what I sit in. This is why I chose to have a lazier feel to my chair. My chair has a storage space at the bottom front of my chair. This allows the user to have easy access to their books; the storage space can also be used to store other things, not just books. Since my chair is longer you can keep your feet up, it can also act somewhat as a bed. I also have armrests on the chair so the user would be able to sit with their arms up.

My chair is a piece of art because it looks unified. It has a very clean design. I believe that my chair is very balanced as it has a organic but block-like form; my chair does not look like it will tip over, it is very solid. My chair is very simple, it gives of a professional feel with it's clean, curved lines. The texture is smooth, this gives off a very relaxing feeling. If I were to add color to this chair, I would make it a pastel or soft colour instead of bold vibrant colours as I would like the user to feel relaxed and not to distract them or keep them awake with attention seeking colours. My chair also uses the curve of the seat to move your eyes from the top of the backrest down to the end of the seat in a slide like motion; this adds a look of sleekness and polish to the chair.

So before I end off my post, I wanted to talk about my design process. So before we actually started making a model of our chair, we were required to plan out the design and present it on a board with a orthographical and isometric drawings; I felt this really helped pain a image of what I wanted my chair to look like in my head.

For a greater understanding of my chair design I used a measuring tape and experimented with measurements to see how big I wanted the chair, how high I wanted the seat and backrest to be.

All this planning really helped me along the way. I don't think I could have made my chair model without it. So, I have some advice for you... planning helps; use it.

I hope you liked my chair!

Sketchup! Designing Chairs

Hey guys! For today's CyberArts seminar we started working with a program called SketchUp. It was very difficult because I had never used the program before. So we basically had 20 minutes to try and make our own personal chairs. This is what I came up with.

I think that my first try was pretty good because the using the program was very difficult and I managed to make decent looking chairs. So I'm happy with the outcome. :)

Have you ever used SketchUp?

Romanticism Collage

Hey guys! How are you?

Well, today I'm going to write about my second CyberArts art assignment; the romanticism collage.

For this assignment we were required to chose to make either a dry print or collage focusing on the theme of romanticism; I chose to make a collage.

The idea behind my collage is "the ignorance of class." It shows a poor boy isolated from the life of a middle or high class society. My collage revolves around the idea that the higher society has so much (money, cars, brand named clothing, education, food, etc) but some of us don't think about those who don't have anything at all. We hear about poverty on TV or read about it in the newspaper; but do we do anything about it?

My piece shows romanticism because there is a lot of drama, emotion, and contrast in my collage with one main focal point. You can see the drama and emotion by looking at the focal point; the large image of a poverty stricken boy which I placed at the bottom half of the collage. His expression is intense; it looks as if he is looking at you accusingly; his stare makes you feel uneasy. I placed him at the bottom on the collage because I wanted to separate him from the overlapped images of the higher society; this shows that he is isolated.

The focal point is contrasted with the top of the collage. The bottom is dark and dramatic; the colours I chose from the bottom were very neutral with blacks and browns with a bit of white. The top of the collage however is very bright with a wide arrange of pictures and colours; this symbolizes a happy wealthy society.

The composition I chose to use was the rule of thirds. I wanted to compare and contrast the two different classes but decided that simply dividing the board in half would not add interest to my piece. This is why I made sure that the top half (or the wealthy class) was about a centimeter higher than the center line. This instantly made my piece look better. Finally, to unify my piece I cut up small pieces of text from a magazine and overlapped them underneath all the pictures; I also added a strip of text at the bottom of the collage so my piece would feel balanced.

I am very happy with the end result of my romanticism collage. I hope you liked the outcome too! :)

Photo Manipulations

Hey guys!

I was online again and I found a article of 39 really cool photo manipulations! What is the definition of a photo manipulation? Well, according to Wikipedia a photo manipulation is "the application of image editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or deception (in contrast to mere enhancement or correction), through analog or digital means."

Out of these 39 photo Manipulations, I wanted to share 2-3 of my favourites and tell you why.

This is the first of the three photo manipulations I wanted to show you. I really like it because it has a cool feel to it and I think that its really interesting. I love how you have the illusion of a man drawing an image of his legs but his legs look like they are attached to the rest of his body making the picture look like a whole.

This is the second photo manipulation I chose to show you. I found it creative because the artist makes the face of this boy seem as though it has the texture of a pillow. They made it as so the impact of the punch has a entirely different outcome than that of reality.

This is the third and last photo manipulation I wanted to show you. This picture, I thought, was very witty. This is because you can see that this person tried to catch a vase from breaking, but broke themselves. It's almost like a reverse situation and I thought that was very cool.

I found that these photo manipulations were really creative and made me feel a round of emotions. Some of them were mind-boggling, others disturbing and some were very witty or clever. I recommend that you check them out. If you would like to see the other 35 photo manipulations, CLICK HERE.

Hope you like them!

Space saving furniture

Hey guys!

I just came across the coolest video ever! Its about a company called "Resource Furniture." Resource Furniture specializes in creating space saving furniture. They create fold up furniture that is multi-purpose and very convenient.

I believe that these designers are very skilled at their trade because the amount of knowledge and problem solving skills needed to design this type of furniture must be enormous. These designers manage to make one type of object into another in such an efficiant way. For example; they attached a table to a wall that can be pulled down into a bed. But that's not all, the table itself does not have to be cleared and moved, the table folds itself completely under the bed; its contents still untouched.

If your still confused on what I mean; check out this video!

After watching that video, are you as amazed as I am? I would love to know your thoughts! For more information you can check out the Resource Furniture website HERE.

Text Portrait - Photoshop Tutorial

Hey Guys!

Well, It's the middle of march break and I am completely bored! haha. It's basically one of those days where you end up spending all your time online because you don't have any plans for the day. Yup, its one of those days. Anyways, while I was sitting here bored, I realized that I am completely behind on my blog posts; oops :S.

So today, I have brought to you a tutorial I stumbled upon earlier this evening. This tutorial was written by Dave Cross in 2009 and I thought It was pretty interesting. Basically, he took a well contrasted picture and made it into a portrait made entirely of text through Photoshop CS4.

Cool right? I thought it was very interesting and being a Photoshop lover myself [haha], I decided that I wanted to make a portrait following this tutorial myself! So I took THIS picture of Hilary Duff which I found HERE and got going! Since this picture did not have the amount of contrast I required, I needed to use Photoshop to enhance the lights and darks of the portrait. Following the tutorial was not hard because the wording wasn't confusing and there were pictures to help explain the steps. In the end, this is how my portrait turned out!

I admit it's not as professional, but I thought It looked well done especially because I added some effects of my own. So personally, I liked how my portrait turned out in the end.

If you guys are interested in making your own portraits made entirely of text, please do visit THIS TUTORIAL and try it out. I would love to see the outcome! Good Luck!

Tangled Trailer Remix

Hello again!
I know I've been promising to put up my edited trailer for a while now so here you go!

For those of you who haven't read my past posts, for my first CyberArts tech. assignment we were required to take a movie/game trailer and change the mood of it by altering scenes, music and sound Fx! For my trailer, I chose to remix the trailer of a 2011 Disney feature called 'Tangled'.

Before I go on about my remixed trailer I would like to show you the original trailer. I actually used 3 different Tangled trailers for this assignment but I will show you one and give you the links for the two others. :)

The Original

You can see the other two trailers here and here. :)

Now here is my Remixed Trailer.

As you saw, the original movie trailer is a romantic comedy with adventure. It makes you feel happy and wants to make you laugh.

For my remixed trailer I decided to change it to make the viewer feel a range of emotions; happiness, suspense, drama and intensity. The original story was of a kingdom thief meeting an interesting and magical girl that had been 'grounded' in a tower [hidden] for about 18 years and how she is taking an adventure with him to find her freedom. My story however is about a kingdom thief who falls in love with a girl in a tower, they fall in love. But the girl betrays him and sends him to jail. Now, he is angry and hurt, he breaks out of jail and takes an adventure to find this girl and take revenge.

I had a lot of fun with this assignment. It was fun cutting and pasting scenes to create a whole new story. The hardest part of this assignment was finding the right music to fit the scenes; it was even harder for me because I had to choose three different songs with different moods. That, I found, was the most time consuming. Sound effects were pretty easy but transitioning them was tricky.

All in all, I like my end result. I really liked how my music really went with the scenes and movement as well as transition. If I had more time, I think I would have edited the voice overs a little more and made them sound better.

I hope you liked my edited trailer! :)

Viewfinder Art Assignment

Hey guys! How are you all doing?

So I am here today to talk about my first art assignment for year 3 CyberArts! :) For this assignment we were put into four groups. Each group had a big piece of paper and pastel. We were required to draw images on these pieces of paper based on a chosen quote; we rotated as we did this for a end result of four random large scale doodles/drawings. From these four sheets of drawings, we had to crop an image with good composition. After we chose a cropping with good composition we had to make a large scale pastel, large scale painting and small scale painting based on the cropping.

I unfortunately lost my original small cropping so I am not able to show it to you. :( But I think you'll be able to have an idea of what it looked like from the two pieces that I chose from this assignment. My cropping followed the Golden mean composition.

The first piece I chose was my large scale painting. This painting is one of my favourites because I loved the free-hand feel of painting it. I liked how it didn't require too much detail; I just needed to take a thick brush and go at it! When I started out I didn't pay much attention to brush strokes, but as I got to the last layers I thought it needed something more. So, for the green top layer I played around with brush strokes by dabbing thick paint in different directions to make it more interesting.

I came across some challenges as I was painting this piece. For one, I couldn't add a lot of blending because my original cropping was very solid in terms of colour; this made my painting look a little simple. Another challenge I faced was drawing the bright pink lines; I needed them to be perfectly straight but it was really hard because I had a very thick brush and so the lines became thicker than I had originally planned.

If I were to change something about this painting, I would change the shade of green I used for the bottom half of the painting. This is because It was a cool colour but it did not entirely match the tone of the green that was in my cropping.

The second piece I chose was my small scale painting. I really liked this piece because I had more control with my brush strokes. Since this was a smaller scale painting, I was able to add more detail in it that I wasn't able to in my pastel piece or my large scale painting.

Unlike my large scale painting, I added some interesting textures and colours to my smaller painting. For one, almost all of my brush strokes (except the straight pink lines) were in all different directions. To make the painting more interesting, I dry brushed over the purple and green parts with black paint; this added an interesting texture to the painting.

I didn't have many challenges with this painting specifically. This is because I had more control with my brush. The only part I had a bit of difficulty with was, again, the straight hot pink lines that I couldn't manage to make perfectly straight.

I hope you liked my pieces! I think my favourite would have to be the small scale painting!

Video on Trail

Hey guys!
Today I will be critiquing two music videos; a good one (in my opinion) and a bad one (in my opinion). I would love to know your thoughts about it afterwards!

The first video is chose to critique is Fireworks by Katy Perry.

This is an example of a good music video. The song was very inspiring and the video matched it perfectly. The song is all about inspiration, hope, belief and the need for change. I loved how the video showed a variety of different scenarios and different characters facing different situations that they needed to overcome. I felt that it was very effective because the song is about how you can make a change and the video showed these characters overcoming their situations by standing up.

I also liked the fact that the video wasn't distracting the viewer from the song itself. There weren't any unnecessary graphics or effects. The effects that were shown [the fireworks and sparks coming out from the individual's bodies] added the effect of power. It wasn't randomly there; it had a purpose. I really liked this music video.

The second music video that I will be critiquing is Your love is my drug by Ke$ha.

This would be an example of a bad music video. This video is completely random and unnecessary. For one thing, it does not make sense AT ALL. In the song, she sings about how "his [her boyfriend I'm guessing?] love is her drug." So it's basically like a love song; she talks about how her mother and friends don't approve of her love and she's confused because she can't get him out of her mind. The video however shows her in a desert, she's randomly dancing, crouching on the ground with a tiger mask on making weird poses and riding elephants. Then is shows her in a canoe, on the sand, as her boyfriend [?] pretends to paddle. Then to top it off, she is shown with a glow in the dark suit and paint on her body [face and all... still in a desert] trying to make [alluring?] poses. SPLAT, an unnecessary graphic animation. She then ends off the video with one sentence; "your love... your love... your love...your love is my drug. I like your beard." WHAT?

The music may be catchy but the music video is a horrible mess. It does not make any sense and is totally random. This video gets a huge thumbs down from me. What were they thinking?

I hope you liked my post. If you have any opinions about the videos I have chosen or my critiques please do leave a message. I would love to know what you think. Also, if you have any examples of good and bad music videos that you would like to share, do post them in the comments below. I'd like to see them! :)

Some Inspiration; an edited trailer

Hi Guys!

I was on YouTube the other day looking at random videos and I came across this fan made trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows [Part1].

This video was made by Kirwani90. I thought the video was interesting because the trailer resembled the sound-editing assignment I had been working on in my CyberArts tech class; which I've mentioned previously in my last post :). I loved how the scenes were edited; some scenes were slowed, some color corrected others drained of colour. It found it interesting and the music used was very fitting. I liked how the editor took an original action, thrilling trailer and made it sad yet intense and dramatic.

I respect the work of this maker because I know how hard it is to edit scenes into the specific order you want it too; timing, transition and all. I also know how much time it takes to find the more fitting music to use and make sure it is perfectly timed and transitioned. So watching this trailer; I was amazed.

I enjoyed this fan made trailer A LOT and I hope you like it as well!

Also! I will be posting up my own edited trailer soon :)

How do you use Garageband?

Hey guys!

I am currently working on my first CyberArts year 3 tech assignment on sound editing. For this assignment we are required to use programs such as imovie and Garageband to edit and change the sound in a movie trailer of our choice.

Personally, I have worked with imovie before and know my way around the program; I do however have a problem with Garageband because I have not used it before. So, because of this I was recently browsing YouTube for tutorials on how to better understand Garageband and I came across this really helpful video.

This video, in my opinion, was very helpful because it showed the basic knowledge you need in order to work Garageband. This video was easy to understand; there wasn't anything too technical and it wasn't too long. Take a look!

Hope this video helped you! :)

If not, I have a tip for you; play around with the program. It may be simple but it works! I've noticed that if you learn by experience. So, just open up the program, fiddle around with the options and buttons and see what happens. This will help you get a feel of where everything is and what it does. Trust me, it works!

Oh! If you're wondering about this assignment of mine, I promise that I will explain it in much more detail soon and will post my final edit after I am done! :D

Bye!

About me!

Hi! How is everyone?

I'm back again for my 3rd year of CyberArts! Today, I'm going to tell you a bit about myself. I know I've already introduced myself before but I just wanted to refresh your minds. Who knows, maybe you'll learn something new about me that I haven't told you before. :)

Let's start from the beginning! I applied for CyberArts in my grade 8 year. I decided I wanted to join CyberArts because I really loved graphic design. A couple of years before, I had discovered some fan art of certain TV shows, movies and celebrities online; I thought It looked really cool. I started experimenting with programs like Adobe Photoshop and began to teach myself how to edit photos and blend images bit by bit. When I found out my high school was offering a program where I could enhance my graphic skills, I had just had to apply.

Two years have passed and this is my 3rd year here in this CyberArts program. I can honestly say that I have no regrets. Everything we do, whether it be in the visual art portion or the tech portion, we learn from it. CyberArts can be challenging at times but we have freedom to express ourselves. We have learned so much in these last two years and I am very excited for the coming year!

Now that you've learned about my CyberArts background, let me tell you a bit about my personal life. :)

My favourite school subjects are CyberArts, Biology, Physics and English. I like Biology and Physics because I understand them and they are interesting subjects. I enjoy English because I love to write and read. I go through tons of novels per month; I love fiction!

I love to dance! I am currently a part of a dance group called RAANG. We are a group of about 14 girls who perform indian (Bollywood and folk) dances for festivals, competitions and charity outside of school.

One thing that you probably have figure out from my previous blog posts is that I love Bollywood! If you ask me anything about Bollywood movies, musics or actors I will probably know it! :P

I also love sports; badminton, volleyball, soccer etc. I may not be the best but I like playing anyways; just for the fun of it. :P

Well, I hope you liked reading about me! I would love to learn about you too! :D
